- East Carolina is up 7-3 on Virginia Tech in the last minutes of the second quarter. Tech hasn’t looked very good, and ECU has looked very good. However, you can feel the tide starting to shift a little bit, even though it’s not indicated on the scoreboard yet. I think Tech will make the necessary adjustments and look like a much better team in the second half.
- Appalachian State is up 21-14, midway through the second quarter. Didn’t see this one coming. App State is a good team, they’ve won the last two Division I-AA (Championship Series Division, or whatever they’re calling it now to try to make it sound more important) championships, but they shouldn’t be able to hang with Michigan. I’d be very surprised if Michigan doesn’t come out and dominate in the second half (second half adjustments are a cornerstone of good teams), but the longer App State competes like this, the better their chances are.
- In the best rivalry that nobody watches, Colorado is playing Colorado State in a great game. If you aren’t watching it, go turn it on now. This has been a very efficient, well-played game, and was tied 14-14 in the second quarter as I sat down to type this. Kyle Bell, one of my favorite players in all of college football, is back after missing last season with a ruptured ACL, and he doesn’t look like he’s missed a beat. He’s big but still manges to make good cuts and make people miss, and if you want to bring him down you better plan on having at least two defenders there to tackle him.
- After typing Number 1, Macho Harris intercepted a pass and returned it for a Virginia Tech touchdown. VTech is now on top 10-7.
I’m so glad college football is finally here.
