Whoopi!

Before I go any further, I just wanted to take a minute to comment on the responses I got regarding Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis.
I will point out, once again, that I never said that Willingham’s firing was not justified.  I never said that Weis is not a good coach or that he deserves to be fired.  I was bringing up a debate that is present and is a topic of conversation for many people.  This was confirmed by the strong reaction I got from people.  I realize that Notre Dame supporters have heard for many years that Willingham was fired for racial reasons, etc., and I’m sure you are all sensitive to the topic.  I appreciate everyone who reads what I have to say, and I appreciate all criticism and debate.  Just remember there are two sides to every story, and that’s what makes discussions interesting.  I just blog…I don’t write under any pretense of being the definitive word on anything or of always being right.  If people respond to something I say, positively or negatively, then I can’t complain.  Besides, you know what they say:  There are three things you shouldn’t discuss at work- Religion, politics, and Notre Dame football.

Moving on…It’s already been jumped on by people in the media and online, so I won’t dwell on it long, but Whoopi Goldberg didn’t wast anytime in saying something controversial in her first day on The View.  Goldberg added herself to the list of ignorant defenders of Michael Vick, saying that dog-fighting is a southern, cultural thing.  You can click here to read more about her comments on the show.

I’m really tired of hearing people (mostly African-Americans) defending Mike Vick.  Dog-fighting is not a “cultural thing,” it’s a scumbag thing.  It’s a felony, and it’s brutal.  There are no excuses.  Just because you are black does not mean you need to mindlessly defend other blacks.  In fact, as a member of the black community, you should level even harsher criticism against Vick.  This is not a race issue, it is an issue of humanity.  By defending Vick, Goldberg and all fellow defenders only create a greater racial divide.  If I remember correctly, it wasn’t too long ago that there were some other “southern, culural things” that I am pretty sure Goldberg would not make excuses for.  Do you remember segregation and slavery, Whoopi?

With football taking over the collective conscience, don’t forget about one of the best baseball seasons in recent memory.

Tonight is the final meeting of the season between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres.  While a lot of the division races have opened up in the last few weeks, these two teams are tied atop the National League West.  Jake PeavyThe Padres have bumped ace Jake Peavy up in the rotation so that he can pitch tonight.  There are still games left to play, but look for this single game to play an important role in whichever team ends up taking the division.  I look for the Padres to gain the edge tonight and eventually win the division.

Heh. Maybe Whoopi thinks we should excuse robbery, assault, and murder. After all, those are “cultural” things that go along with poverty.

Whoopi Goldberg never fails to make me angry. Everything that drops out of that woman’s mouth is racially slanted. Any time I’ve seen her on TV without a script to read, she inevitably chooses to discuss white and black people for whatever reason it is. Question: How are we supposed to let racial issues fade away when PEOPLE KEEP ON BRINGING IT UP ANY TIME THEY HAVE THE CHANCE? And defending Vick is pretty much a display of terrible ethics and/or absolute stupidity.

As much as I hate on Whoopi, she seems to be intelligent, but after hearing about her defending Vick with such a weak and disturbing counter argument, any shred of respect I had for her has just been tossed out the window.

Padres - Diamondbacks has been a showdown all season. While I agree San Diego should win the division, I think either of these two are capable of winning the World Series, either as Western Division champs or as Wild Card teams. Chris B. Young won’t get it, but he’s really made a case for Rookie of the Year (only player with 25+ homers and 25+ steals).

You were on target about the Whoopi/Vick stupidity. Perhaps she would also excuse the lynchings in the old south as a cultural thing.
